What it is, and where it goes

Class 2 20mm is the most commonly specified base course on Victorian civil projects. A fully crushed, dense-graded rock that compacts tight and develops excellent bearing strength, it sits directly beneath the wearing surface on roads, car parks and industrial hardstands. When a pavement design calls for "Class 2 FCR", this is the material.

It is engineered to a continuous grading, from the nominal 20mm particle down to fines, so that it locks up under compaction and carries traffic load without rutting or pumping. The same product is the basis for cement-treated base (CTCR) when a bound, higher-strength layer is specified.

We supply it plain, wet-mixed at optimum moisture, or cement-treated from 1% to 4%, sourced from VicRoads-accredited quarries and matched to your spec. Every tonne is visible in NXT Control from the weighbridge to your gate, so what is on the docket is what is on the ground.

How much do you need?

As a guide, compacted Class 2 weighs around 2.1 tonnes per cubic metre. Multiply your area by the layer depth to get the volume, then by the density. Tell us the area and depth on the quote form and we will convert it to tonnes and price the delivery for you.

Common questions

What is the difference between Class 2 and Class 3 crushed rock?
Class 2 is a higher-specification base course that sits directly beneath the wearing surface and carries the most load. Class 3 is a sub-base used below the base course or in lighter-duty applications. Class 2 has a tighter grading and is the usual call for trafficked pavements.
Can I get Class 2 cement treated?
Yes. We supply cement-treated crushed rock (CTCR) blended from 1% to 4% cement to your pavement design, for bound base layers that need extra strength or moisture resistance.
What is the difference between dry and wet-mix?
Wet-mix arrives at optimum moisture content, ready to spread and compact straight away, which saves watering on site. Plain (dry) is supplied as-is. We supply whichever suits your placement method.
How is it delivered, and can I track it?
We deliver Victoria-wide by tipper, truck and trailer or truck and quad depending on your access and quantity. Every load is GPS-tracked in NXT Control so you can see it from the weighbridge to your gate.
