Overview

About this product

Brick sand is a fine sand with a controlled clay content that makes mortar “fatty”, it spreads smoothly, holds on the trowel and bonds brick to brick. Colour matters as much as workability: the sand drives the final mortar tone against the brick.

We supply beige, brown, orange, white and yellow brick sands so the mortar matches the architect’s intent, in bulk, scheduled with the rest of the build’s materials.

How much do you need?

Sand is supplied by the tonne. As a guide it weighs around 1.5 tonnes per cubic metre, so multiply your area by the depth for the volume, then by the density. Tell us the job on the quote form and we will work out the tonnes and price the delivery.

50 m² × 0.05 m deep = 2.5 m³ × ~1.5 t/m³

Common questions

Why use brick sand for mortar?
Brick sand is fine and slightly plastic (“fatty”), which makes a smooth, workable mortar that trowels and tools well and holds the brick. Sharp sands are harder to work for masonry.
Does the colour matter?
Yes. Brick sand colour carries into the mortar joint, so it is matched to the brick and the look. We carry a range of colours, ask for what suits the job.
How is it delivered, and can I track it?
It is supplied loose by the tonne and delivered by tipper across Victoria, sized to your site access. Every load is GPS-tracked in NXT Control so you can see it from the yard to your gate.
