Inland Rail is a 1,600 kilometre spine of new and upgraded track connecting Melbourne to Brisbane, engineered to run double-stacked freight trains up to 1.8 kilometres long. It is one of the largest infrastructure programs this country has ever taken on, and a major stretch of it runs straight through regional Victoria, past Beveridge, Wandong, Broadford, Euroa and Benalla.

Bridges are being torn down and rebuilt for double-stack clearance. Track is being lowered under the Hume Freeway. New station platforms are going in at Euroa and Benalla. Inland Rail calls it the largest scope of works it has ever undertaken in a single rail possession.

NXT Quarry is the inbound materials supplier. 40,000 cubic metres of it.

What Inland Rail actually is

A once-in-a-generation freight backbone.

Inland Rail connects Melbourne and Brisbane by rail for the first time via an interior route, taking trucks off the highways and moving freight faster, cheaper and cleaner across the eastern seaboard. The Victorian section, Beveridge to Albury, is where clearances are being raised so double-stacked trains can run the whole corridor.
